Weekly or Monthly Roller Rental: Planning the Period
How to estimate how long you need a roller or plate compactor, and when a 1-week or 1-month rental suits the job.

Booking a roller for too short a period means rushing the work or extending in a hurry. Booking for too long means paying for a machine that sits idle on site. Getting the rental period right is as much part of planning as choosing the machine.
Our published rental periods are 1 week and 1 month. This guide explains how to estimate how long you really need the machine, and what to consider before you pick a period.
The published periods and rates
Weekly and monthly rates
Each machine has a weekly rate and a monthly rate. These rates are for the machine:
- Plate Compactor: RM400 per 1 week, RM1,000 per 1 month.
- Roller Compactor (1 Ton): RM600 per 1 week, RM1,400 per 1 month.
- Roller Compactor (3 Ton): RM1,800 per 1 week, RM5,000 per 1 month.
Rollers of 5, 10 and 25 tons are available to ask about, with the price given in the quotation. You can compare everything in our roller rental rates by week and month.
Other periods
If neither a week nor a month fits, for example a single day or a period in between, ask. Other periods are not published and are confirmed in the quotation.

Estimating how long you need the machine
Count the compacting days, not the job days
A roller is not needed for every day of a job. On many sites it works in bursts: after the sub-base is laid, after each layer, and again when the surface goes on. List the stages that need compaction and when each will happen.
- Formation compaction after clearing and shaping.
- Sub-base compaction, layer by layer.
- Surface compaction, such as asphalt or a final crusher run layer.
Allow for the weather
Rain stops compaction work. Wet material does not pack properly, and you may need to wait for the ground to drain before carrying on. During rainy months, build some slack into your plan rather than assuming every day is a working day.
Allow for other trades
Compaction often waits on others: drainage pipes going in, kerbs being set, asphalt being delivered. If any of these could slip, the machine may sit idle for a few days in the middle of the rental.
Ask your supervisor or contractor
If you are an owner rather than a contractor, ask whoever is running the work for a realistic schedule. They usually know which days the compactor will actually be in use.
When a weekly rental makes sense
Short, well-defined jobs
A porch base, a driveway, a few pothole patches or a single trench reinstatement can usually be finished within a week if materials and labour are ready. A weekly rental suits these.
When everything is ready on day one
A weekly rental suits you when the site is cleared, materials are on site and the crew is ready the day the machine arrives. If preparation is still going on, the week can disappear before compaction starts.
When a monthly rental makes sense
Longer or staged jobs
Road works, car parks, housing estate roads and factory compounds often run in stages over several weeks. A monthly rental keeps the machine on site through each stage without the need to rebook.
Uncertain schedules
If the schedule depends on weather, other trades or approvals, a monthly rental gives breathing room. Compare the weekly and monthly rate for your machine and think about how likely the job is to run past a week.

Other costs to plan for
Transport
The machine is delivered to site and collected after. The transport charge depends on the site location and is stated in the quotation. This applies once per delivery and collection, so factor it in when you compare periods.
Deposit and operator
A deposit is paid before delivery; the amount is set in the quotation. An operator can be arranged on request, depending on the package. Published rates are for the machine.
Ask for a quotation
Tell us the site town, the machine, the start date, the period you have in mind, the material, the area and access, and whether you need an operator. If you are unsure about the period, describe the stages of the job and ask.
