When to Ask About 5, 10 or 25-Ton Rollers

Large earthworks, road base layers or a project specification can call for a heavier roller. When to ask, what to prepare and how the quotation works.

When to Ask About 5, 10 or 25-Ton Rollers

Most small jobs are covered by a plate compactor, a 1-ton walk-behind roller or a 3-ton ride-on. But some sites need more weight: a long access road, a large earthworks platform, or a project where the engineer has specified a heavier roller. That is when 5, 10 and 25-ton rollers come into the conversation.

This article explains when it makes sense to ask about a heavier roller, what to prepare before you ask, and how the quotation works for these machines.

Our published machines first

Before moving up in size, check whether a published machine already fits the job. Smaller machines are easier to deliver, easier to move around the site and simpler to plan for.

The three published machines

  • Plate Compactor: RM400 per 1 week, RM1,000 per 1 month. Small areas of soil or sand, small construction jobs.
  • Roller Compactor (1 Ton), walk-behind double drum: RM600 per 1 week, RM1,400 per 1 month. Small road works, repairs, narrow spaces.
  • Roller Compactor (3 Ton), ride-on: RM1,800 per 1 week, RM5,000 per 1 month. Bigger road and site works.

You can see all three on our roller compactor fleet and rates.

When a 3-ton ride-on is enough

Many housing estate roads, factory compounds, car parks and resurfacing jobs fit within what a 3-ton ride-on handles. If the area is moderate and the layers are not deep, start the discussion there.

Signs your job may need a heavier roller

Heavier rollers are not about speed or prestige. They are about matching the weight of the machine to the size and depth of the work.

Large earthworks

Platforms for factories, warehouses or housing phases involve a lot of fill spread over a big area. A heavier roller covers that ground with more compaction effort per pass.

Road base and sub-base

New access roads, estate roads and widening works often have several layers of fill and aggregate. Heavier rollers are commonly used on these base layers before the final surface goes on.

The specification says so

On many projects the consultant or engineer sets the compaction requirement and may name a roller class. If your drawings or method statement mention a tonnage, share it with us.

Soil type

Clay, laterite, sand and crusher run each respond differently to compaction. The material is one of the details we ask for, because it affects which roller suits the job.

What to prepare before asking

Heavier rollers are larger machines to transport and place, so the details matter more.

Job details

  • Site town or location.
  • The roller class you have in mind: 5, 10 or 25-ton, or the specification if one exists.
  • Material: soil, sand, crusher run or asphalt.
  • Approximate area and number of layers.
  • Start date and rental period.
  • Whether you need an operator.

Access for a bigger machine

A heavy roller needs a suitable lorry and a firm, open area to unload. Tell us about the access road, any gates, height limits or soft ground. Photos of the entrance and unloading area help us plan.

Site readiness

Have the area cleared and the fill ready to spread before the roller arrives, so the rental period goes into actual compaction.

How pricing works for 5, 10 and 25-ton rollers

Price comes with the quotation

These rollers have no published price. Their rate depends on the machine, the period and the site, so it is stated in your quotation. We do not quote a figure until we know the job.

Transport, deposit and operator

As with our other machines, transport is charged by site location, a deposit is paid before delivery with the amount set in the quotation, and an operator can be arranged on request depending on the package.

Rental period

Published periods for our fleet are 1 week and 1 month. For heavier rollers, tell us the period you need, and it will be confirmed in the quotation.

Ask about a heavier roller

We take enquiries across Peninsular Malaysia, and availability and transport for your town are confirmed on WhatsApp. See our pages for roller compactor rental in Kuala Lumpur, roller compactor rental in Rawang and roller compactor rental in Batu Pahat. Send us the details above and we will tell you what fits.
